The Pavements
The gardeners, Terrance, Peter, Gift and Julius have been hard
at work cleaning up the pavements in the area. Unfortunately
we have to wait for the rains before we can dig or plant as the
ground is rock hard at this time of year. The positive is that the
weeds don't grow either but a lot of time is spent clearing litter
and leaves. We like to leave some leaf cover on the beds to act
as a mulch but when it completely covers the plants it is time to
remove some!

Our new project has been the corner of Houghton and Munro
Drive which is now planted and waiting for the rain.
Unfortunately in the meanwhile we have to water by hand
which is a time consuming exercise. The area on the big bend
of Munro Drive is taking strain due to lack of water but the
plants are indigenous and we hope they will survive now that
they are established. We are managing to maintain all the other
planted areas well including St Peter's road and Young Avenue.
When one notices what the verges are like on the south side of
Louis Botha we are definitely making a difference.

We now have 36 residents involved in this project of
beautifying our suburb. We would, of course, welcome any new
contributors. The donations range from R50 to R700 per month
and we are indeed really grateful to all those who support this
initiative.
